International HIV Partnerships, an HIV resource consultancy founded
in June 2010, teams with HIV stakeholders to create strategic alliances
for successful responses to HIV and related conditions. These partnerships
vary, depending on the local situation, but are in the areas of treatment
and diagnostics, research, communication and social accord.
IHIVP’s resource consultants maintain long-term working relationships
with key stakeholders in all areas of HIV and each has over 20 years
of experience in:
Networking and communication,
Project design and development,
Advocacy for treatment and research advances and rollouts,
Advocacy for treatment literacy,
Cooperative training and education projects amongst people living
with HIV, health care providers, international agencies and government
officials.
IHIVP activities have, mainly, focused on the regions of South East
Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia with, as
yet, relatively low HIV prevalence rates. While each is unique, their
issues are similar: high stigma and low testing rates amongst vulnerable
populations leading to late patient presentation; limited access
to drugs and diagnostics resulting in suboptimal care.
Crucially, patients and health care providers, historically the prime
agents for change in HIV, are often isolated without support, experience,
knowledge or guidance.
With fewer people living with HIV, fewer supporters and fewer medical staff,
the capacity to respond to HIV in these countries is muted. With less
overall societal impact, the perceived need to respond is less urgent.
These
regions need more positive attention. Strong, strategic partnerships
amongst stakeholders in these regions and with those in the West
can support and produce successful responses to HIV and related conditions.
